Wyoming

Our top scientific institutions, including the U.S. military, NASA, and NOAA all say pollution is causing our planet to get warmer. Still, false information designed to discredit climate science is actively promoted by organizations with ties to coal and oil. Many leaders in Congress are also spreading disinformation about the climate. While fossil fuel companies are generating enormous profits, we ultimately will bear the costs associated with extreme weather and rising sea levels. Representatives for Wyoming in the United States Congress have an important role in supporting efforts to solve the issue. Wyoming senator John Barrasso has in the past questioned the conclusions of science on climate change. These views helped earned him a position as head of the Senate environment committee under Trump. His statements about climate change are shifting lately. In the past, when asked about human contributions to climate change, he said "The climate is constantly changing. The role human activity plays is not known." More recently, he speaks about climate differently, with more sophisticated language that does seem to acknowledge the climate situation. Cynthia Lummis also represents Wyoming in the Senate. She is generally regarded as a friend of the fossil fuels.
Undermining America's energy security will not solve climate change. Instead of raising the costs of traditional energy sources, we should work to lower the cost of alternate technologies like carbon capture & advanced nuclear reactors. - John Barrasso, speaking at the first Senate climate change hearing of 2021
This has to be a global effort. What we have seen is when we have entered into accords like the Kyoto accords and the Paris climate agreements, even when we don't sign, we're the only ones who comply. Signing a piece of paper that other countries regard as non-binding is not the answer. The answer is to capture carbon, sequester it, and continue to use all the sources of energy that keep us a robust country, and then to share our technological advances with the rest of the world. - Cynthia Lummis, quoted in AP News
Liz Cheney holds Wyoming's seat in the House of Representatives. She supported Trump's decision to leave the Paris agreement on climate, and has stood against efforts in Congress to address climate change.
I think that [the federal government's] assertions about climate change are based on junk science. - Liz Cheney
I strongly support President Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement. This agreement imposed emissions standards that would have devastated America’s fossil fuel industry with no measurable impact on the climate. The agreement was based on flawed science and its purpose was to kill our coal industry. - Liz Cheney
