I live in an apartment complex and there is no recycling available there. My parents live in the county and they want to charge a hefty price to come and pick up recycle bins. I know that in an ideal world, cost would not matter and I would pay, or stockpile my recycling up and take it myself each month. But I live in the real world where I go to school & have a job and family. I simply do not have the time money or space to recycle in this way. I'm looking for some opportunities I may not know about or something I may not have thought of.

We can only do the best we can.in our town we
have been able to keep the hauling fees down
because everyone must separate their garbage
aluminum,glass,paper,garbage and that is the
first thing, separate:then find a use or find
a way to reduce, the simplest way is bring yo
ur own canvas bag to the store, buy in bulk,do
^nt drink pop,forgo junk food,simplify.do alo
t of cooking on the weekend and freeze portio
ns so you^re not tempted to buy quickjunk.

Dear Friend,
Before thinking about the issue of recycling after your accumulate such things it would be better to think before your purchase.
In this regard I request you to kindly go through a writing titled "intelligetnt purchase" by me in the pollution section of earthforums.
I hope it may prove valuable.

In addition to the sound advice diogenes
gives, I would also suggest writing a quick, brief note to your County or City Commissioners (whomever has jurisdiction over refuse disposal). Simply tell them you believe curbside recycling is the only way many busy people can participate in recycling and you'd like to see it made available to everyone in the county/city. You may want to encourage others in your apt. building to do the same. Counties have a real interest in diverting recyclables away from landfill since using up landfill space too quickly, necessitating procurement of new land for additional landfill is very costly.
