George W Bush has THE worst environmental record in the history of U.S. Presidents. His record speaks for itself, but to dig deeper into Bush's complete lack of respect and disregard for the United State's natural resources, here are some of his administration's appointments to government positions that are in charge of protecting the Country's Natural resources. Your tax dollars at work:
Undersecratary of Agriculture for Natural Resources and Environment, Currently in Charge of U.S. National Forests: Mark Rey, former lobbyist for Timber Industry.
Interior Assistant Secratary for Water and Science, In Charge of Water: Bennett W. Raley, who previously lobbied for industries that pollute water.
Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Land and Minerals Management, In Charge of Land Containing Minerals: Rebecca Watson, who spent almost her entire legal career defending extractive industries, the mining and timber industries in particular.
Special Assistant to the Secratary of the Interior for Alaska: Carmen Toohey, Former Lobbyist for Polluters in Alaska.
Assistant Secratary of the Interior for Policy, Management and Budget, with duties including supervising environmental regulation and management: Patricia Lynn Scarlett, former anti-environment, pro-business advocate who has lobbied against all kinds of environment positions and is on record opposing environmental issues including mandatory curbside recycling, campaign finance limits, consumer right to know laws, mandatory nutritional labeling, and pesticide use restrictions.
This is no lie, people. George Bush has handed over protection of federal lands to corporate interests - these are YOUR National Parks and natural resources, lands that are paid and maintained with YOUR TAX DOLLARS. Representatives of the oil, mining, and timber industries are now making the decisions affecting these resources. There are current proposals from Bush to clear-cut in some of the Nation's forests, even in protected old growth Giant Sequoia forests. They are advocating for drilling for oil in Alaska to exctract a relatively small amount of oil compared with the nation's needs. They have lowered clean air and water standards, withdrawn for the global Kyoto agreement to curb greenhouse gasses that contribute to global warming, and they are absolutely against any measure to protect the Country's natural resources.
